Once upon a time in old Japan
There lived a woman and a man

They lived ‘neath the shadow of mountain high
Where cloudy wisps would pass them by

The village home could just be seen
Between the mountains and the streams

Despite their love, no child had they
But wiser gods would have their say

The Gods looked down on the couple so mild
And thought to reward them with a child
From on high and down rumbling river
A peach came forth to be the giver

The woman found the peach complete
And took it home for them to eat
Such size of peach was never known
Tho’ mans knife would slice it to its stone

Oh heavenly gods what happened then
The stone feel out and there a gem
The gem it moved and changed its’ form
And lo a child, a boy was born

Called Momotaro, the Peach Seed boy
Adventures were to be his toys

The boy grew strong and broad and tall
And gave such pleasure to them all

The village life was simple and serene
Save only for Oni – mischievous beings

Oni jeered and scorned and lived for theft
The village folk were quite bereft

Momo child, now handsome man
Decided, ‘I’ll do what e’re I can’

His Mother gave him magic bread
So she knew he would be fed

He met some friends along his journey
And told them all about the Oni

A Dog, was whom he met at first
A Pheasant second, a Monkey third

They shared the bread, it lasted long
And most of all it made them strong

They spied the Oni Island Fort
and knew a battle would be sought

The war game set, the battle day
All frightened folk should go away

Those Oni spirits were not so brave
Thinking only of themselves to save

Momo and friends had not long to go
Before they watched the retreating foe

Now Victory certain, they’d won the fighting
They walked protected by dragon’s lightening

The Good, they’d won the battle day
The Oni evil has gone away
